  • The John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts 868 High Street Eugene, OR, 97401 United States (map)

Siri's new cabaret evening at the Shedd explores Femme Fatàle, this most provocative artistic muse and controversial feminine archetype. Accompanied by an excellent 7-piece ensemble, this three-set show will stretch into diverse musical territory, from Alban Berg's Lulu to Puccini's Tosca, Bizet's Carmen, over to classic folk and pop with song selections by The Velvet Underground, The Rolling Stones, Tom Waits and Bob Dylan; some of the greatest standards from early to late films noir, and to the work of more contemporary, alternative songwriters Bjork, Nick Lowe and Laura Mvula.  Femme Fatàle is a conversation-in-theater and music -- a conversation which moves beyond stiletto heels and come-hither stares, to the nature of male desire and female response to desire, objectification, the imposition of courtly love, the unwritten rules of binary gender -- the ways we still dance this dance, and the ways we break free.
